Sorrow Worketh Death

The word "sorrow" is a compact way of saying all things that do not pertain unto life. Things are quite disillusioning at times. They appear to give life, when the end of these things is death. Now, let us remember that Satan is a spirit. He is known in the life of human beings and recognized by their deeds or fruits.

It is very easy to distinguish between good and evil or between the right spirit and the wrong spirit or between life and death. If you know God's Word, Jesus said, "My Words are life," then all that is contrary to His Word is death. Satan may take the form of life that God has created. He may come as a wolf in sheep's clothing, as he usually does. He will present himself in a rare, glowing bundle of success, to paint a beautiful picture of lust, to spin a web like a spider which waits for its prey. The web may be beautifully spun and greatly to be admired as it sparkles or dazzles in the sunlight of life, but beware, for the hand of evil is present somewhere to bring death. Satan is everything that pertains unto death.

Let's enumerate some of the things of which he consists: he is sorrow; a broken heart; a drunkard on the street corner; a gambling hall that steals souls; a harlot, whose guests are in the chambers of hell. He is a sinful enjoyment for a season, a deceiving promise that never performs and climaxes in death. He is anything that is not joy, peace and righteousness in the Spirit of God. His disguises are beyond numbering. His forms, shapes and fashions have, can, and will deceive the most brilliant men that ever walked the earth. He can be acknowledged in his greatest achievements or disguises, which are the human thoughts or the carnal mind, which is at enmity with God. This mind is altogether materialistic. It knows nothing about the supernatural, invisible beings like God or His angels. It demands a logical explanation of natural definement for everything that it accepts. It shall pass away, because it, too, is material, and the deceiving power behind it shall be consumed with the brightness of His coming. The carnal mind, with all its ambitions, is given into the hands of Satan to make war with the human soul, until God has thoroughly processed and trained the children of God in types and shadows and allegories of those things. The thief only comes to kill and destroy, but Jesus said, "I am come that you might have life, and that more abundantly."
